From: George Highfill
To: Dee and the Class of 1956
Thank you for inviting me to your 50th Class Reunion. I regret that I
cannot attend. I appreciate your sending me pictures of the class. I
have fond memories of the students of this class and my years of
teaching in Meade.
The only class member I recall seeing after your graduation was Marc
Boyd. In 1970, Clara Mae and I were visiting my sister who lived in
Busnell, Illinois. My sister mentioned a young doctor practicing in
Busnell and he had grown up in Meade, Kansas. We went to Marc's home
and had a nice visit.
I hope several of your former teachers can attend your reunion. You
were fortunate to have very good teachers for your high school years.
My family and I lived in Meade from 1951-1956 and enjoyed the school and
community very much. Our daughter attended kindergarten there and two
of our three sons were born in the Meade Hospital. After leaving Meade,
I continued in school administration and retired in 1988 after serving
as Superintendant at St. John for 23 years.
We now live in Lawrence where we stay busy with a variety of activities.
We live near the Kansas River levee where we enjoy biking and walking.
This may be of interest to any of you who are bikers. I did the Bike
Across Kansas twice, In 1998, Claramae and I joined a North Dakota
biking group and biked 422 miles around Lake Sacagawea, a great
experience.
Our four children are Juli, Scott, Philip, and Jay, and we have six
grandchildren. Juli teaches at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.
Scott and family live in San Diego and he has a tire business. Philip
is in computer work in Los Angeles. Jay, a financial consultant, and
family live in Praitie Village, Kansas.
This brings you up-to-date on my life and family. It would be nice to
hear news of all of you.
I hope many of the Class can be together, and have a pleasant time
remembering.
With good wishes,
George Highfill
